Last month, Vesna Vukojevic was walking through Trstenik, Serbia, when she saw something that broke her heart.
A lonely stray dog was sitting on the sidewalk in front of a bakery. The dog looked hungry for love and attention. Since he didn't have a human to pet him, he had found something else to do the job.
The dog was sitting next to a moving statue. The statue's mechanical arm moved up and down, petting the dog. The poor dog was pretending it was a real person showing him love.
When Vesna posted a video of this online, people all over the world felt sad for the dog.
"That just killed part of me," one person wrote.
"Poor dog just wants to be loved," another person said.
Nina Savić, who loves animals, saw the video too. She was so moved that she decided to help. With her friends, she rescued the dog from the streets and brought him to her home over 200 miles away.
The dog is now playfully called Hogar the Horrible. At first, he was slow to trust that he could get real hugs and pets from people.
But little by little, he started to feel better.
Savić took a chance on Hogar, and it worked out perfectly.
Now he knows what real love feels like.
Savić lives in Belgrade and hopes to find Hogar a new family. But she also says she'd be happy to keep him forever.
"Everyone is in love with him," Pinter said. "He knows how to win everyone's heart."
