Dog Left Hiding In Doghouse After Family Decides To Move Without Her

For eight long years, Pamela the dog lived in a broken-down doghouse in her family's backyard. No soft bed, no warm couch — just that little shelter, year after year. It wasn’t much, but it was all she knew.

Then, one day, things got even worse.

Her family was being evicted. And when they packed up and left, Pamela was left behind — alone, scared, and confused.

That’s when Janine Guido, the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, got a call. A local realtor had told her about a dog who would soon be homeless. Janine didn’t waste a moment.

When she arrived, she found Pamela peeking out of her tiny, weathered doghouse. Janine later posted a photo on Facebook with a caption that read:
“Ever wonder what a dog with a broken heart looks like?”

Soon, the man who had lived there came out, loaded Pamela into Janine’s car, and without a word, walked back inside. Just like that.

Pamela was obviously terrified about the new and sudden changes in her life. Her tail tucked tightly between her legs. She didn’t bark or bite — just let out a soft growl, as if trying to protect herself from the unknown.

“She doesn’t have physical wounds,” Janine wrote, “but her emotional scars... those are the hardest to heal.”

But Guido has helped even the most traumatized dogs overcome their pasts. So, she knew that Pamela just needs some love, comfort and patience.

Pamela needed a vet visit right away. Her body was covered in sores — the result of living outside for so long in dirt and neglect. She was scared of everything, even Janine’s gentle voice.

But something amazing started to happen.

Within just a few days, Pamela changed.

The dog who had spent her whole life outside began to trust. At first, her kisses were small and shy. But after a few peaceful walks with Janine, she started to come out of her shell.

One morning, while they were walking, Pamela stayed right by Janine’s side. Every few steps, she looked up, jumped up to give a hug, and gently kissed Janine’s face.

It was like she was saying:

“I’m OK now. Thank you.”

That moment, Janine said, was one she’d never forget.

Pamela is still healing, and no one wants to rush her. She’s staying at Speranza Animal Rescue where she’ll be fully cared for, both physically and emotionally, until she’s ready for the next big step: finding a forever family.

“She’ll be with us until we know exactly what makes her happy,” Janine said. “But we’re hopeful her forever home is just around the corner.”
