It was a normal Wednesday morning at the RSPCA Woodside Animal Center—until the staff arrived and saw the dog. She was tied to the front gate, her head pushed through the bars, ears pulled back, and big brown eyes filled with sadness and hope. No one knew how long she had been there, but one thing was clear—she was waiting for someone to help her. The staff quickly stepped in to help.
The sweet dog, later named Misty, was so thin that you could see her ribs, and her fur showed signs of neglect. Her skin was irritated, and there were small scratches on her nose.
It was clear that life hadn't been kind to Misty, but things were finally looking up for her. The shelter became her safe place—a place where she could get the care, love, and attention she had long been missing.
After checking her over, the shelter found that she had a microchip. At first, they felt hopeful—they thought the chip might lead them to someone who cared for her. But after calling the number on the chip, they discovered Misty had been rehomed years ago. Somehow, she ended up tied outside the shelter, alone and abandoned.
No one knows how Misty’s life became so difficult, and her story remains a mystery. But the shelter staff were certain of one thing—she deserved better, and they would do everything to give her the fresh start she needed.
No matter the reason, leaving a dog alone like that is never okay. Anything could have happened to her in those hours she was left outside. The RSPCA is now investigating, hoping someone might know how Misty ended up there.
“We’re asking the public to help us learn more about her past,” said Inspector Karl Marston.
For now, Misty is safe inside the shelter, resting and recovering. When she’s ready, the team will help her find a loving forever home—one where she’ll never be left behind again.
